A Grandson By Joseph Delos Allred

Steven Terrance Allred, with various sources spelling it 'Stephen' was born January 12, 1898 in Spring City. He married on 18 Dec 1929 Ruth Elma Jorgensen in the Salt Lake City Temple. Steven was a barber for over 40 years we learn from his obituary in the Salt Lake Tribune on Sunday December 5, 1982, page B19. He was active in his faith, serving in various capacities for many years. Steven and Elma were parents of three sons, Richard Don (1931-2003), Stephen K, Paul R. Steven Terrance Allred died 3d December 1982, followed by his wife 1st January 1998. Her obituary begins: Ruth Elma Jorgensen Allred celebrated the new year by entering the arms of her beloved husband.
Their family was raised in Salt Lake and this is where they rest, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. At the time of Ruth's death they had 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

While Joseph Delos Allred passed away early, Steven did not grow up an only child; his mother later married Joseph Henry Puzey, his father's cousin and grew up with a younger brother and sister, Lydia Marie Puzey Andrew and Richard Keith Puzey.

Lola Jane's Last Two Children

Cora Virginia Justesen married Fergus Theodore Thompsen 28 Dec 1931 in Manti, Utah. I do not have the marriage having been performed in the Manti LDS Temple in my record. This marriage ended with a divorce. They had a son William Sean Thompsen. I have his birth as 1937 and a death date in 1978. Cora married Walter David Hook 18 Dec 1935, and this couple also had a son Donald P. Hook. Cora died 21 Dec 1998 at Reseda, Los Angeles, California, where I learn from Social Security Death Index that Walter also died there in May of 2011. They have two grandchildren in my record.
Fergus Thompsen passed away in St George Utah in 1986.

I have located WWII Army Enlistment information for Fergus Thompsen which indicates he was a shipping or postal clerk at the time of his enlistment in 1943. I have not yet learned anything more of Walter Hook.

Lola Winona Justesen married Louis S. Allred 12 Jun 1942 in Manti. Lola passed away in Provo 14 Jun 2005, preceded by Louis on October 27, 1969. They were parents of seven children, five sons and two daughters. Two have passed away, Vicky Sue in 1960 at age 15, James L. in 2008 aged 64. Their remaining children are Robert S, David L, John A, Cynthia and Randy B. Lola and Louis are buried in the Spring City cemetery. I have no (further) biolgraphical information as yet on this family.

Mary Ann's Grandchildren through Lola Jane A. Justesen

Lola Jane Allred married John Franklin Justesen on November 13, 1895. Spring City farmer/rancher he also served as postmaster and as Spring City mayor.
Their first child, daughter Elizabeth Cleo was born 9 Aug 1896, the year Utah became a state. I have identified two husbands for Cleo: Claude Waltimer Burquist and Ernest Millerschoen. Both Cleo and Ernest passed away in California, I believe. Cleo had on child, Franklin Claude Burquist, born in Spring City in 1924 and passing away in California in 2011.
Edith Fern was the second child, born 25 Dec 1898. I find her with her husband William Frank Andersen. Her obituary ran in the Deseret News January 13, 1987, stating she died in a Salt Lake nursing home of natural causes. I find records with spellings of both "en" and "on" but find that Edith's daughter has a son whose middle name is spelled Andersen. I use this evidence for my spelling the family name with the "en". The number of Danish immigrants to Sanpete would also suggest this spelling is correct. Edith's only child, daughter Helen Dawn Andersen, survives her husband Robert Rue Hansen who passed away in 2008. She has three children which will be numbered with Mary Ann's great-grandchildren.
Sarah Maxine was born 25 Sep 1900 and died in a Salt Lake City hospital on 9 Dec 1964. I find various dates for both birth and death. An obituary ran in the Deseret News Friday, Dec. 10, 1965, page 10B. THis record tells us Sarah was an elementary School teacher as well as serving on the LDS Stake Sunday School Board. I have identified no children of Sarah's and husband Rulon Peter Peterson. Neither her obituary nor their headstones refer to any children. They are buried at Ehpraim Park Cemetery, Rulon having joined his wife in rest on April 27, 1989.
Mary Hazel, 1903 to 1985, Her husband Clinton S. "Brick" Robison, 1903-1990, was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah County but grew up i Bingham Canyon. He was a butcher and grocer. He served also on the Bingham Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. They had three children: Mary Sue who died at two years of age, Clinton J and Samuel P.
Inez Ophelia, 1904 to 1990 and her husband, Lyman Sheldon Monsen of Mt Pleasant were parents to three sons, J Sheldon, Stephen B and John P. and I have identified 17 grandchildren.
John Evans the only son of Lola and John Franklin was born8 Jul 1908. He had been hauling livestock in Pigeon Hallow in Sanpete county when the truck overturned, crushing him and assigning him the statistic of first auto death of 1938.

An Overdue Correction

I find in the Salt Lake papers this morning the obituary of Margaret Boud Coombs, 94, daughter of Joseph Edwin and Irene Delaney Boud. I have not known prior to this that that couple had this child. I find also, in the 1930 US Federal Census they have a son, Robert four years younger than Margaret. My post of July 31, 2010 then is incorrect and I show a lapse in researching. I am certain this will not be the only error I find as I go on with this story of this remarkable family. At other times I will find more complete information; when I find either: errors or incomplete information, my goal is to correct it as quickly as I am able.

So, while I have not gotten to the grandchildren of Elizabeth Pollard Boud let me introduce Margaret Boud, born 1916 in Salt Lake City and married 1939 Alan Coombs. A graduate of University of Utah at age 20 with a degree in Science and Education. Margaret and her husband were restauranteurs in Salt Lake for over thirty years and active supporters of the local ski industry.
They have four children. Alan Coombs passed away 1976. Margaret- Margie- passed away August 20, this past Saturday.

I am sure her family has our collective sympathy and condolences. Her obituary is posted at www.larkinmortuary.com

I will search for more information about our kin Robert, as well.

And I extend my apologies for my error.

Passages

To women especially important to me have passed away from this family: Robyn Suzanne Leary Mancini passed away in New York on June 6, 2011 at age 60. She was the granddaughter of Ralph Backman. My mother Joan Kirkham, daughter of Ralph Backman (and aunt to Robyn Leary), passed away after battling pancreatic cancer for 11 months on Jul 14, 2011 in Ogden, Utah.
I am aware of a hesitancy to put my mother's death into print. But I know of her legacy, which will touch many for a long time to come and which supports me in all things.

Grandchildren through James Carlos Allred

Clarence Jay Allred born at Chester in Sanpete county on February 19, 1900 passed away February 9, 1969. He had served as Executive Secretary of the Utah State Roads Commission. Mary Anne's Family, continued

I learn a little bit more of Lola Juanita Backman Peterson's family from the book The Gottfredson Line (FHL us/can 929.273 G713gr). Her husband, Arthur Marion Peterson was born in Circleville, Utah. Also of Utah pioneer stock he served an LDS mission in the Western States Mission and this was where he and Lola met. They married in the Manti LDS Temple 1917. I have listed her children.

Grandchildren through James Carlos Allred and Ruth Anine Justessen are Clarence Jay Allred (1900-1969), Merrill Allred (b & d 1904), Alice Geniel A. Prestwich (1907-2004), James Raymond Allred (1910-1980) and Erma A. Barton (1916- 1985). I have recorded sixteen children from these 5 (great grandchildren to Mary Anne.)

By Lola Jane Allred and John Franklin Justessen Mary Anne has eight grand children: Elizabeth Cleo J. Burquist Millerschoen (1896-1961), Edith Fern J. Anderson (1898-1987), Sarah Maxine J. Peterson (1901- 1965), Mary Hazel J. Robinson (1903-1985), Inez Ophelia J. Monson (1904-1990), John Evans Justessen (1908-1938), Cora Virginia J. Thompsen Hook (1911- ), Lola Winona J. Allred (1913-2005). I have record of 15 children of these 8 grandchildren of Mary Anne.

Joseph Delos Allred had one child before his untimely death: Stephen Terrance Allred (1898-1982). Stephen's mother did remarry, her second husband Joseph Henry Puzey also a descendent of Joseph Pollard. We will meet that family later. Stephen Terrence Allred and his wife Ruth Elma Jorgenssen had three children.

Martha Amelia Allred Anderson had seven children: Beulah Amelia A. Neill (1898-1971), James Clair Anderson (1900- ), Vernon Hazen Anderson (1903-1964), Alton Boyd Anderson (1905-1965), Alma Owen Anderson (1909-1987), Eva Mauarine A. Buma (1913- ), anad Mary Marjorie A. Snyder Foxe (1918-). These seven grandchildren of Mary Anne had nine children that I have identified.

John Arthur Allred, Mary Anne's youngest child was the father of four, Arthur Allred (1910), LaFerne Allred (1916), and CLyde Allred (1917) deceased at or shortly after birth. His surviving child, Elva Ramola A. Fechser (1913-1982) and her husband James Rogers Fechser were parents of five.
